Erik ten Hag was left fuming as Manchester United fell to West Ham with a damaging 2-1 defeat.

This defeat was highlighted by a controversial late penalty awarded after a lengthy VAR review.

Jarrod Bowen converted the decisive penalty two minutes into stoppage time.

United dominated the first half while West Ham appeared lackluster until Crysencio Summerville came off the bench at halftime to give the Hammers an unexpected lead in the 74th minute.

Summerville capitalized on a cross from Bowen, sliding in to score after Danny Ings misfired.

United quickly equalized with a header from Casemiro just seven minutes later, but their hopes were dashed by the late penalty.

Despite a strong start, including a near miss from Alejandro Garnacho and a missed header by Bruno Fernandes, United struggled to convert their chances.

The second half saw West Ham make crucial substitutions, which ultimately turned the tide.

Ings was brought down in the area late in the game, leading to the VAR check that resulted in Bowen’s penalty.
