President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reportedly planning to name Senator George Akume, the former Minister of Special Duties and former Governor of Benue State, as the new Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF).
This decision is said to be an attempt to appease the North Central zone ahead of the race for leadership of the 10th National Assembly.
Senator Akume is a long-time ally of President Tinubu.
The President is expected to formally announce the appointment of Senator Akume and other personal aides between Friday and Monday next week.
There have been speculations about the appointment of personal aides of the President since his inauguration on Monday as the 16th President of Nigeria.
Reports emerged yesterday that President Tinubu had appointed Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, as the Chief of Staff to the President, but Gbajabiamila denied the appointment and asked Nigerians to ‘allow the system to work.’
