Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, has expressed his desire to make a comeback to the Super Eagles national team after missing out on the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
Okoye has not played for Nigeria since his error in the Round of 16 match against Tunisia at the 2021 AFCON, which resulted in the Super Eagles’ exit from the tournament.
In a recent interview with the Udinese official website, Okoye shared his disappointment at having to watch the 2022 AFCON from home.
However, he remains determined to return to the national team as soon as possible. “I am feeling great now. I am back to 100 percent fitness.
Representing the national team is of utmost importance to me, and I am eager to make a comeback,” Okoye stated.
While Okoye hopes for a recall, he will face competition from Stanley Nwabali, who put on an impressive performance as the first-choice goalkeeper for the Super Eagles during the 2023 AFCON.
Okoye will need to prove his worth and surpass Nwabali’s performance to reclaim the number one spot. The Super Eagles’ goalkeeping position is highly competitive, and only the best will secure a place in the team.
