The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has announced plans to introduce Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an alternative fuel, which will be sold at a price range of N100 to N110 per litre.
This move comes as a relief to motorists and transport operators in Nigeria, who have been affected by the petrol subsidy removal that caused a spike in fuel prices across the country.
According to the national president of IPMAN, Chinedu Okoronkwo, CNG will help reduce Nigeria’s energy consumption cost and provide cheaper energy to drive processing zones like agro-based industries.
The adoption of CNG-powered cars has already started gaining speed nationwide due to increased awareness about their efficiency and affordability compared to ordinary petrol and diesel.
The alternative fuel is expected to reduce the country’s exposure to fuel imports as natural gas would be imported instead.
If the government accepts IPMAN’s plans, it will act as an assistant, bring relief, and create job opportunities.
