Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, has stated that the 2027 election will be a direct contest between Nigerians and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He made this statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
According to Jane Ibe of Nigerian Cultural Tours, Makinde emphasised that the opposition, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), must regroup and strategise better before the next election. He noted that the party needs to reconnect with the masses to fulfil its role as the “hope of the common man.”
Makinde further expressed his frustration with the current state of the PDP, stating that it cannot afford to disappoint Nigerians again. He urged the party to focus on regaining public trust and preparing for the 2027 elections with a stronger, unified strategy.
In his own words, “In the 2027 election, it won’t even be PDP vs APC; it will be Nigerians vs APC. Mark my word on that.” Makinde’s statement underlines his belief that the battle for political power will be broader than party affiliations.
