NLC Calls for Indefinite Strike, Government Attempts to Stop Strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is preparing for a possible nationwide strike after the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum given to the Federal Government.

The NLC is demanding palliatives to offset the impact of the recent fuel subsidy removal.

State chapters of the NLC have expressed their readiness to mobilize for a strike if the National Executive Council (NEC) declares one.

The NEC is expected to meet on Tuesday to discuss the next course of action. In an attempt to prevent the strike, the Federal Government is scheduled to meet with NLC leaders on Monday.

The government is appealing for understanding and highlighting recent salary increases for junior lecturers.

However, if the NEC decides to proceed with the strike, workers across the country, including in states like Ekiti, Gombe, Sokoto, Plateau, and Lagos, are expected to participate.
