The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has accused Rabiu Kwankwaso, a former presidential candidate of the party, of being responsible for the removal of Kano governor, Yusuf Abba, by the State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.

The party claims that Kwankwaso allegedly betrayed the NNPP by aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to secure a ministerial position in the government led by President Bola Tinubu.

The tribunal ruled in favor of the APC candidate, Nasir Gawuna, and invalidated a significant number of votes received by the NNPP, citing non-compliance with electoral regulations.

Alhaji Abass Akande Onilewura, a chieftain of the NNPP, stated that Kwankwaso’s alleged anti-party activities and improper selection of governorship candidates contributed to the party’s loss in Kano.

The NNPP has expelled Kwankwaso and aims to rebuild the party under new leadership.
