Nokia 8 might not be the best android flagship smartphone out there, but it is definitely one of the best considering its specifications and price in Nigeria. nokia 8

Talking about its first class premium design, ravishing look, stunning display, powerful processor, awesome camera hardware & set up and stock Google android OS.

There have been rumors of the coming of this device since early 2017 but was officially unveiled as HMD flagship of 2017 in August.

It became available for pre-order in September 2017 but didn’t starts shipping out until October same year.

One of the numerous things that makes this device lit, is it running on the pure android operating system which means it users get latest update fast and constant security patches resulting to great performance.

Nokia 8 & The Rise of Nokia Again Under HMD Global.

The emergence of iOS and Android OS about a decade ago led to the extinction of Nokia, the then biggest mobile phone manufacturer in the world.

Actually, Nokia’s refusal to upgrade to the latest, trending and better operating system than the then java and Symbian OS dragged them into the ground.

Since then, it has been rough for Nokia as a brand. Microsoft bought their devices and services department in 2014 to boost Windows mobile OS.

It turns out that people just don’t like the windows OS on mobile phones which was why part of Microsoft’s phone department was sold to HMD Global (a Finnish tech company) in 2016 with license to manufacture mobile phones using the Nokia name for 10 years.

Since early 2017, HMD global has released about 10 android smartphones under the Nokia brand with Nokia 8 (NK8) been the year’s and brand’s first flagship.

Though the NK8 has a more appealing 2018 variant dubbed Nokia 8 sirocco. Which is currently among the overall best smartphone in the world welcoming Nokia phones back into the fold of best and greatest.

Nokia 8 Specifications & Review.

Under this review, i will talk about its design & display quality, operating system, processor, storage, battery, camera, connectivity and price in Naira.

Inside the box the phone comes in with are the wall adapter, usb type c cable, earphone and warranty cards.

According to HMD global, the device aluminium unibody undergoes rigorous 40-stage crafting and designing processes to give it a unique look and makes it nestle perfectly in the palm of your hand.

It is available in steel, blue and copper color. But the polished tempered blue is most people’s favorite myself included.

Above the display are the selfie camera, nokia branding, notification light and ear piece. Below the display are the navigation buttons and home button which doubles as the fingerprint scanner.

At the top is the 3.5mm head phone jack while the bottom host the speakers and USB Type-C port that supports quick charge 3.0.

Behind the smartphone, we have the dual camera that uses Zeiss lens and dual Led flash.

Left side of the NK8 housed the sim cards (nano + nano) and sd card tray while the right side have the power and volume buttons.

The network bands are across the top and bottom with a bit extension to its curved edges.

The nokia 8 has a screen size of 5.3-inch featuring IPS display, LCD panel and Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels) screen resolution with pixel density of 554 PPI (pixel per inch) and brightness of 700 nits.

What all the above grammar means is that the NK8 has a bright and sharp display quality. That you will enjoy the device display especially for watching movies and playing games even under direct sunlight.

The NK8 screen is protected by corning gorilla glass 5. It is also IP54 certified (dust resistant and splash proof).

Have seen a lot of flagship display and trust me, the NK8 has one of the best the industry could offer in 2017.

Operating System, Processor & Storage/Memory.

The nokia 8 is powered by the current most powerful qualcomm MSM8998 snapdragon processor, runs on android 7.1.1 out of the box upgradable to 8.1 Oreo and available as 4GB/32GB, 4GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB.

NK 8 is powered by the same 64-bit Snapdragon 835 SoC seen on the Samsung Galaxy S8, Note 8 and most other flagships of late 2017.

The 8-cores/Octa Core processor is set up as 4-cores (quad core) 2.5 GHz Kryo + 4-cores (quad core) 1.8 GHz Kryo.

With Adreno 540 GPU, you can bet the device handles all high-end graphics games without breaking a sweat. Meaning gaming on the device is flawless and lag free.

It was launched with Android 7.1.1 Nougat on board but has since then received OTA upgrade to Android 8.0 and recently 8.1 Oreo.

If you opt in for Android P beta testing, you will receive it on the Nokia 8.

On the memory department, NK 8 is available in two variants. There is a 4GB RAM and 32GB internal memory variant, 4GB RAM and 64GB variant and a 6GB RAM and 128GB ROM variant.

All can be expanded using SD card up to 256GB.

Battery, Camera & Connectivity.

The Nokia 8 is packed with a Li-Ion made 3090 mAh non-removable battery capacity.

This is a small battery for such display quality if you ask me but thanks to the cooling system and snapdragon processor, you can get a full day of medium usage.

The camera is one of the selling point of this device. It features a 13MP + 13MP dual rear camera and 13MP selfie camera.

One of the 13MP rear camera uses RGB lens and captures in colored while the other is a monochrome that captures in black and white. Both images combined gives a crisp output.

You can however chose to shoot with only one of the camera via settings.

The camera can record video in 4K couple with 360 degree sound with the Nokia OZO audio.

You can also do a live streaming of video to Facebook and YouTube directly from the Nokia 8 camera.

Another awesome feature of the camera is what is called dual-sight mode or bothie mode which allows you to use the front and rear camera at the same time.

It supports dual sim, uses usb type-c, Wlan, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, external storage space, FM radio and 4G LTE.

It supports all LTE bands including the not so popular band 40 in India and band 28 used by Globacom Nigeria.
