Nunez Scores Stoppage-Time Double to Seal 2-0 Win for Liverpool at Brentford

Darwin Nunez scored a stoppage-time double to secure a 2-0 win for Liverpool at Brentford on Saturday, keeping the Premier League leaders’ momentum going with their first league victory of 2025.

Brentford had a strong start, with Mikkel Damsgaard missing an early opportunity, and Yoane Wissa and others testing Liverpool’s keeper Alisson.

Liverpool created several chances, with Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo missing good opportunities.

Despite Brentford’s solid defense, Liverpool finally broke through in stoppage time with Nunez netting twice in three minutes, first tapping in a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross in the 91st minute and then scoring again with a clinical finish two minutes later.

The victory extended Liverpool’s lead to seven points over second-placed Arsenal.

Liverpool now have 50 points from 21 games, while Brentford remain 11th with 28 points from 22 matches.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk acknowledged the importance of such victories, emphasizing that every win is crucial in a highly competitive league, stating, “If nobody is ready for a bumpy ride then this season will definitely be one.”

Despite the tough loss, Brentford’s boss Thomas Frank praised his players for a commendable performance against one of the league’s finest teams.
