The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed that Hannatu Musawa, the minister of art, culture, and creative economy, is currently serving as a corps member.

NYSC spokesman Eddy Megwa confirmed this information.

However, there have been allegations from the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) that Musawa is serving as a corps member while also holding a cabinet position in President Bola Tinubu’s government.

HURIWA has called on the NYSC to make Musawa choose between her national youth service and her ministerial appointment.

The group also questioned why Musawa’s status was not disclosed before she was screened for the position.

It is alleged that Musawa had abandoned her NYSC in Ebonyi state but later expressed a desire to complete it.

In 2020, she was nominated as a national commissioner but was turned down by the Senate due to her failure to provide her NYSC certificate or exemption letter.
