Omoni Oboli Slams Ghana TV for Shocking Copyright Theft

Nigerian actress and filmmaker Omoni Oboli has publicly called out television stations in Ghana for allegedly airing her film without proper authorization.

According to The Nation, Oboli claimed her movie Twin Deception was broadcast on several Ghanaian terrestrial TV stations on the same day it premiered on her YouTube channel. She accused the stations of copyright infringement, describing the act as theft.

Oboli expressed disappointment, noting that she has been quietly working with Ghanaian agencies to curb this issue. However, she said the repeated unauthorized airing of her work made it clear that some people do not understand the legal and ethical implications of such actions.

The filmmaker stated that airing a film without permission is not a form of promotion but an unlawful act. She made it clear that lifting content from YouTube to broadcast on television without licensing is punishable by law.

While expressing her affection for Ghanaians, Oboli urged the authorities, including Ghana’s President, to take action. She described the situation as an international embarrassment and called for immediate intervention.

Her strongest message came through a quote posted to her Instagram:
“You are not promoting my film if you rip it off my YouTube channel (without licensing and permission) and show it on your TV station. You are stealing from me for your own personal gain. Do you get it now? There’s no world in which that is a good thing.”

Despite the frustration, she emphasized her respect for her Ghanaian audience and appealed for a resolution grounded in mutual respect and legal compliance.
