Top notch performance exhibited by OnePlus 6 put it right on top with the rest of the world’s most powerful smartphones.
Putting all departments except price into consideration, most people will choose the likes of Galaxy S9 (Plus), iPhone X, Huawei P20 Pro over the One Plus 6.
Why? Because in an excruciating turn of events, the OnePlus flagship lacks some 2018 flagship features.
Talking about using FHD resolution against QHD seen on most 2018 flagships, not IP certified, no support for wireless charging and absent of SD Card slot.
But putting price into play and questioning the need of the above features, you will see people drop these aforementioned smartphones and opt in for the OnePlus 6.
Personally, my only issue is the Full HD screen resolution on board the 6. Absent of SD card would have been another issue but with internal storage options like 64GB, 128GB and 256GB, i think i will pass.
Also, lack of expandable storage shouldn’t be issue because it has never been present on any oneplus device because they believe it will slow down the device and users can testify to the speed of their devices.
For IP certified (water resistant) and wireless charging, i can’t picture situation where I’d have to go into the bath or pool with my phone and i am sort of okay with the work of the dash charge tech accompanying the 6.
That been said, let’s look more closely into the One Plus 6 and its price in Nigeria.
Talking of powerful smartphones, i think you should also check out Nokia 8 Sirocco.
OnePlus 6 Specifications & Review.
The pro of the device include performance (it is fast and flawless), premium build quality, first class camera, battery is lit and of course it is very cheap compare to its competitor.
It also have its downside which i have pointed above.
Design wise, One-Plus 6 follow the trend of most 2018 flagships to feature a full gorilla glass 5 unibody. I mean front, back and sides are made of these hardened glass.
In as much as this gave it a premium look and feel, it also means you can’t be careless with it as you would with a phone designed out of metal material.
Another trending features on the device is the notch display and 19:9 aspect ratio. Don’t worry, update (it put a black shade on both sides of the notch) has been released to help you get rid of the notch if you are not a fan.
The notch house the selfie camera, earpiece, light sensor and notification light. Its also got a chin and very thin bezel on the sides.
While there is nothing on top of the device, the bottom host the speaker, 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone and USB Type C port.
At the right side are the power/lock button and alert slider which allows you to toggle between vibrate, ring and silent. On the left side, we have the sim card tray slot and the volume bottom.
At the rear are the dual camera, dual led flash light and the oval shape fingerprint scanner.
Overall build quality of the device deserves an A+.
OnePlus 6 is a 6.28-inches Optic AMOLED display smartphone with Full HD (1080 x 2280 pixels) screen resolution featuring 19:9 full display and 402 ppi pixel density protected by corning gorilla glass 5.
The display quality is not as great as that of the galaxy s9, but it looks vibrant with awesome color reproduction.
At the bottom of the display are the on-screen navigation buttons which you can hide and replace with swiping gestures similar to those seen on the iPhone X.
Swiping up and hold takes you to recent apps while swiping up takes you to home screen. Swiping up at the bottom right or left of the screen takes you back.
Performance, Operating System & Memory.
OnePlus themselves called the 6 “The speed you need”. It is powered by the current most powerful qualcomm SoC in snapdragon 845 with Adreno 630 GPU on board.
There is no game or app you will run on this monster that will makes it cough.
The device is amazingly fast and multi-tasking is fluent. Geekbench 4.0 (Single and multi core) scores on its 8GB RAM, 128GB internal storage variant trumped that of S9 plus and Pixel 2 XL but still bowed to the iPhone X.
It comes with do not disturb (DND) feature for gaming. It is called gaming mode and help stop notifications from disturbing you while gaming. You can choose which of your game you want the gaming mode for.
Another cool feature on this device is the qualcomm’s AptX audio enhancement technology that result in better audio quality over wireless and wired connections.
The 6 runs on OnePlus custom Oxygen OS based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The Oxygen OS offers numerous customization options without compromising the stock android skin.
Storage wise, OnePlus 6 is available as 6GB/64GB, 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB RAM and internal storage. Considering the fact that you can’t expand the storage, i will recommend you go for atleast the 8GB/128GB variant.
Battery, Camera & Connectivity.
OnePlus 2018 flagship is packed with 3,300 mAh battery capacity with dash charge.
The Dash Charge technology from OnePlus got the 6 from 0% to 60% in 30 minutes and full charge in about 70 minutes which is pretty fast if you ask me.
On a fair (average) usage, you won’t be able to drain the battery juice in less than 20 hours. Meaning it can take you a full day with a single charge.
Like i said earlier, the device doesn’t support wireless charging which is quite surprising since they opt-in for glass body design.
At the camera department, the device boast of dual 16MP + 20MP rear camera that proves capable in both natural light and low light environment.
Shots taken with OnePlus 6 rear camera is not as great as that of the S9 plus or the Pixel 2 XL, but it is better than shots from pretty much other flagships including the iPhone X.
The 16MP is of Sony sensor with f/1.7, 27mm, 1/2.6″, 1.22µm, gyro-EIS, OIS while the 20MP is Samsung made with f/1.7, 1/2.8″, 1.0µm.
The duo combine produce crisp images. With phase detection autofocus, dual-LED flash and features like HDR, face detection, Geo-tagging, touch focus and panorama integrated, you bet the picture quality is excellent.
It can shoot video in 720p@480fps, 1080p@30/60/240fps (slow motion) and 2160p@30/60fps quality.
The selfie camera is 16MP with EIS and HDR.
Face unlock feature is also present and pretty fast on this device.
It support dual nano sim, usb type c, 4G LTE (All bands in Nigeria), Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi, NFC and GPS.
