They comes with a high end specifications that is said to satisfy everyone at every aspect.

The OnePlus 8 Pro was launched in April this year while the S20 Ultra was launched in February this year.

Both of them has a very nice looking body and spot a gigantic screen and battery.

If you are looking for a flagship device to buy but you are stuck between the OnePlus 8 Pro and the Galaxy S20 Ultra, welcome to the post as i will be doing a thorough comparison to help you make a purchase decision.

OnePlus 8 Pro Vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Prices

8 Pro is priced at 312,000 Naira while the S20 Ultra is priced at 424,000 Naira.

As of writing, it is only the S20 Ultra that is available in Nigeria, you can get it on Pointek. The 8 Pro is not yet available but will be very soon.

Design Comparison

The design of this two smartphones are beautiful. OnePlus 8 Pro camera module is setup vertically while the camera module on the Galaxy S20 Ultra is setup in a square shape.

Back of the 8 Pro is made from a Gorilla Glass but it doesn’t quite show a lot of fingerprint stains, it’s back kind of look like a matte finish.

It has an aluminium frame which makes it a solid device.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra on the other hand has a Gorilla Glass 6 on the back which is stronger than OnePlus 8 Pro Gorilla Glass, it has the same aluminium frame.

8 Pro has 8.5mm thickness, 74.4mm width size and 165.3mm length size.

Galaxy S20 Ultra has 8.8mm thickness, 76mm width size and 166.9mm length size.

The dimensions of this two devices revealed that the Galaxy S20 Ultra will feel taller in the hand than the OnePlus 8 Pro, but the 8 Pro will be more flatter on a surface.

Galaxy S20 Ultra weighs more than the 8 Pro.

It weighs 220grams while the 8 Pro weighs 199grams. This means that the 8 Pro is lighter in weight than the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

They both can resist dust and water as they spot IP68 rating. The 8 Pro doesn’t have a micro SD card slot, it only uses a Dual Nano SIM slot, nothing more.

But the S20 Ultra uses a Hybrid SIM slot which is either dual Nano SIM without an SD card or one Nano SIM and one SD card.

You can get the 8 Pro in three colours which are Glacial Green, Ultramarine Blue and Onyx Black. The S20 Ultra can be gotten in two colours which are Cosmic Grey and Cosmic Black.

So in terms of design, the OnePlus 8 Pro wins it, it has a very clean design.

But in terms of build quality, the S20 Ultra is better, the S20 Ultra is more durable than the 8 Pro. Though, the 8 Pro doesn’t attract a lot of fingerprint stains while the S20 Ultra do.

So it depends on you, would you bear the fingerprint stains and get the S20 Ultra because of the durability or would you give up on durability and get the OnePlus 8 Pro which has a beautiful design and doesn’t attractive fingerprint stains?

Although, the 8 Pro is durable but the S20 Ultra is more durable.

Display Comparison

Coming to the front, the OnePlus 8 Pro has a punch hole cut-out at the upper left corner of the display while the S20 Ultra has it’s punch hole cut-out at the centre of the display.

The 8 Pro has a very smaller chin and bezels than the S20 Ultra.

That’s why the 8 Pro has a screen to body ratio of 90.8% while the Galaxy S20 Ultra has 89.9% screen to body ratio.

The OnePlus 8 Pro uses a Fluid AMOLED capacitive touch screen that is capable of generating 1B colours, while the S20 Ultra uses a Dynamic AMOLED capacitive touchscreen that is capable of generating 16M colours.

8 Pro’s display measures 6.78inches diagonally, while the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s display measures a whopping 6.9inches diagonally.

OnePlus 8 Pro’s display can produce a resolution of 1440 x 3168 pixels, while the S20 Ultra’s display can produce a resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels.

There is a pixels per inch density of 513 in the 8 Pro while the S20 Ultra’s display has 511 pixels per inch density.

They both has HDR10+ support and refreshes at 120Hz. The S20 Ultra supports always on display while the 8 Pro doesn’t support that.

OnePlus 8 Pro front is made from a Corning Gorilla Glass, while the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s display is made from a Corning Gorilla Glass 6, Samsung don’t joke with durability.

So in terms of display, the main difference is in the size, type and the build. The S20 Ultra has a bigger 6.9inches unlike the 8 Pro that has 6.78inches.

OnePlus 8 Pro uses a Fluid AMOLED display with 1B colours while the S20 Ultra has a Dynamic AMOLED display with 16M colours.

The front build of the 8 Pro is a single Corning Gorilla Glass, while the S20 Ultra build is a six Corning Gorilla Glass.

Hardware and Software Comparison

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra comes in two variants, the Exynos variant and the Snapdragon variant.

Exynos variant and the Snapdragon variant are the same but for this comparison, we are going to use the Snapdragon variant.

So the S20 Ultra is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset that has an Octa core processor clocked at 2.8GHz.

It runs on One UI 2 user interface based on Android 10, alongside an Adreno 650 GPU.

The OnePlus 8 Pro on the other hand is powered by the same Snapdragon 865 chipset and Adreno 650 GPU but it now runs on OxygenOS v10.0 based on Android 10 operating system.

OnePlus 8 Pro comes in two storage configurations which are 8GB RAM and 128GB ROM or 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM.

Galaxy S20 Ultra is only available in one storage variant which is 12GB RAM and 128GB ROM.
There is a micro SD card slot for storage expansion in the S20 Ultra but the 8 Pro doesn’t have a micro SD card slot for expansion.

So in terms of hardware and software, this two devices will likely perform the same.

The difference is that the 8 Pro will use Oxygen’s user interface while the S20 Ultra will use One UI user interface.

Camera Comparison

For optics, the OnePlus 8 Pro comes with a quad rear cameras which includes a 48-mega pixels main camera with f/1.8 aperture, 8-mega pixels telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture, 48-mega pixels ultra wide camera with f/2.2 aperture and a 5-mega pixels depth sensor.

On the front, it uses a 16-mega pixels camera for selfies or video calls.

For the Galaxy S20 Ultra, it comes with same quad rear cameras which includes a 108-mega pixels main camera with f/1.8 aperture, 48-mega pixels telephoto lens with f/3.5 aperture, 12-mega pixels ultra wide lens with f/2.2 aperture and a 0.3-mega pixels TOF 3D sensor.

On the front, it has a 40-mega pixels camera for selfies or video calls with f/2.2 aperture.

The 8 Pro has a dual led flash at the rear while the S20 Ultra has a single led flash at the rear.
Galaxy S20 Ultra can record videos in 8K while the OnePlus 8 Pro can only record at the maximum of 4K.

The front camera of the S20 Ultra can record videos in 4K while the OnePlus 8 Pro front camera can record only in 1080p.

So when it comes to the camera aspect, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is better. The Galaxy S20 Ultra will take a very sharp and detailed images than the OnePlus 8 Pro.

However, the 8 Pro can do better at night since it uses a Dual LED flash.

Also note that the pictures taken with the 8 Pro will be clean and sharp but for comparison, the S20 Ultra’s pictures will be better.

Battery, Security and Connectivity Comparison

Coming to where both of them derives energy, the 8 Pro is powered by a Non-removable Li-Po 4,510 mAh battery which supports 30W fast charging.

It also supports 30W wireless fast charging and 3W reverse charging. The S20 Ultra comes with a Non-removable Li-Po 5,000 mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging.

It also supports 15W fast wireless charging and 9W reverse charging. So for battery, you don’t need anyone to tell you that the S20 Ultra will perform better and will even charge faster.

For security, they both has an under display fingerprint scanner. 8 Pro uses Bluetooth 5.1 while the S20 Ultra uses Bluetooth 5.0. Other connectivity options includes 4G LTE, 5G, WiFi 802.11 and NFC.

Final Note

So to conclude, both of them are a very good devices to get. They only differ in the display, camera and battery.

The 8 Pro has it’s ultra wide camera as 48-mega pixels while the S20 Ultra has it’s ultra wide camera as 12-mega pixels.

The S20 Ultra has 0.3-mega pixels TOF 3D sensor, while the 8 Pro has 5-mega pixels depth sensor, no TOF sensor.

On the front, the S20 Ultra has 40-mega pixels camera while the 8 Pro has 16-mega pixels camera.
