Design

A52 comes with a very nice design, especially how the gradient finishes looks.

Like i said earlier, this smartphone doesn’t look like a midrange device at first glance because of the beauty and how the rear panel changes colours when tilted.

It has a vertical rectangular camera module which spiced up everything.

The back of the A52 is made from a plastic material and it also has a plastic frame, we are not surprised about this build quality because that’s normal for midrange devices.

Plastic is even more durable than glass so it is a good material. The device is also not that heavy at 162grams.

It has 8.9mm thickness, 75.5mm width size and 162mm length size. This dimensions simply means that the smartphone won’t feel bulky in the hand.

It will feel compact in your hand so if you have a small hand, you can handle this device. The device has a slot for dual Nano SIM and one memory card.

You can get in two colours for now which is Black and Blue.

In comparison with the older A5 2020 to see which one is better, it comes with a nice design too but the design of the A52 is better and more attractive.

The older version has a centred vertical camera module.

It weighs 195grams so it is heavier than the new version. The smartphone also has 9.1mm thickness, 75.4mm width size and 163.6mm length size.

With this dimensions, you can tell that the older version has a bigger body. The back is made from plastic and it also has a plastic frame.

As usual, it has a slot for Micro SD and Dual Nano SIM but it comes in Mirror Black and Dazzling White colours.

So are their any upgrade in the design and build material department? Yes, there is. The new version comes with a better design and it is not even heavy like the older version.

Although, the new version still retains the same build material but at first glance, you will think that it’s glass.

Display

Coming to the front side of things, A52 comes with the trending punch hole cut-out at the upper left corner of the display.

The punch hole cut-out is where the selfie camera sits. It has a smaller chin and bezels unlike the older A5 2020. The display is an IPS LCD capacitive touch panel which is capable of generating up to 16M colours.

It measures 6.5-inches diagonally with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. It also has a pixels per inch density of 405.

The display has an aspect ratio of 20:9 which means it is a tall device. There is no protection on the front or whatsoever, it is made from a normal glass.

In comparison with the older A5 2020, the smartphone comes with an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that is also capable of bringing out different colours, up to 16M colours.

It has the same screen size of 6.5-inches but it produces a lower HD+ resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels.

The pixels per inch density is 270. It has a pretty thick chin and bezels which made it to have a screen to body ratio of 82.7% and having a 20:9 aspect ratio means that the smartphone is tall.

Its front is made from a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which is stronger than the normal glass on the A52.

The smartphone will be very bright outdoors as it has a 480nits brightness.

So when it comes to the display, A52 is only better in resolution, it can produce a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and so, can stream videos online up to 1080p.

On the other hand, the older version seems to have a better build quality.

The front is made from a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which is better and stronger than the ordinary glass on the new A52.

Again, it has a 480nits of maximum brightness which is better.

The final note about the display is that if you want to stream 1080p videos online, the A52 is your go but if you care more about durability, the A5 2020 is better.

Hardware and Software

Moving on to the hardware and software department, A52 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset which has an Octa core processor clocked at 2.0GHz for the first four cores and 1.8GHz for the last four cores.

It is running on Android 10 operating with Oppo’s ColorOS 7.1 user interface.

For graphics or gaming, there is an Adreno 610 GPU responsible for it.

It is available in two storage configurations which are 4-giga byte of RAM and 64-giga byte of ROM or an 8-giga byte of RAM and 128-giga byte of ROM.

There is a memory card slot available for you to expand the storage up to 256-giga byte.

In comparison with the older A5 2020, the smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset which has an Octa core processor clocked at 2.0GHz for the first four cores and 1.8GHz for the last four cores.

It is running on Android 9 Pie operating with Oppo’s ColorOS 6.1 user interface.

For graphics or gaming, there is an Adreno 610 GPU responsible for it.

It is available in three storage configurations which are 3-giga byte of RAM and 64-giga byte of ROM or a 4-giga byte of RAM and 64-giga byte of ROM or a 4-giga byte of RAM and 128-giga byte of ROM.

There is a memory card slot available for you to expand the storage up to 256-giga byte.

When it comes to the hardware and storage, A52 and the Oppo A5 2020 is powered by the same chipset, same GPU and same storage.

Oppo didn’t touch or change anything in the hardware and software department.

Camera

In terms of optics, the smartphone comes with a quad rear cameras which is setup in a vertical rectangular module.

The cameras includes a 12-mega pixels main camera with f/1.8 aperture, 8-mega pixels ultra wide with f/2.2 aperture, 2-mega pixels macro camera with/2.4 aperture and a 2-mega pixels depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture.

On the front, it has an 8-mega pixels camera for selfies or video calls.

In comparison with the older A5 2020, it comes with the same quad rear cameras which includes a 12-mega pixels main camera with f/1.8 aperture, 8-mega pixels ultra wide with f/2.2 aperture, 2-mega pixels macro camera with/2.4 aperture and a 2-mega pixels depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture.

On the front, it has an 8-mega pixels camera for selfies or video calls. So when it comes to the camera, the A52 doesn’t bring anything new to the same table.

It still comes with the same 12MP main camera, 8MP ultra wide, 2MP macro and 2MP depth.

They both has even same 8MP selfie camera. Nothing is new here, so there is no upgrade in the camera department.

Battery, Security and Connectivity

In terms of battery, the A52 is powered by a Non-removable Li-Po 5000 mAh battery.

You can recharge the battery faster since it supports 18W fast charging. For security, it has a side mounted fingerprint scanner.

In comparison with the older A5 2020, it comes with the same 5,000mAh battery capacity with support reverse charging. It doesn’t support fast charging.

So the A52 brought 18W fast charging to the table, hence, it is a good upgrade in terms of battery.

Connectivity options includes WiFi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and FM radio.

Final Note

Oppo A52 is a good midrange smartphone to get considering its price in Nigeria.

Based on our comparison above with the A5 2020, the overall result is that the new A52 is better and it has a good upgrade over the latter.

Though, they are similar in some ways.
