Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian striker for Napoli, has made history by equalling George Weah’s record for the highest African goalscorer in Serie A with 46 goals.

Osimhen’s latest goal came in the 52nd minute of a match against Udinese, which secured Napoli’s first Italian Serie A title in 33 years.

The victory sparked wild celebrations in Naples and beyond, with Osimhen being dubbed the “King of Naples” for his remarkable achievements this season.

In addition to equalling Weah’s record, Osimhen has also emerged as the African player with the most goals in a single season in the Italian league, having scored 22 times in the 2022/23 season.

He has broken records previously held by Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto’o, Nigerian forward Simy Nwankwo, Senegalese Keita Balde, and Egyptian Mohamed Salah.

Osimhen’s impressive performance has cemented his place as one of the top African footballers in the world.
