Hon Somtochukwu Udenze, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Ogbaru 11 constituency, has been elected as the speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly after defecting to the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The APGA has a majority in the state legislature, with 17 members, followed by seven Labour Party (LP) members, three PDP members, and three seats for the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
Udenze, who has been a member of the assembly for three terms, was elected under the APGA platform after defecting from the PDP two weeks ago.
The new deputy speaker is Ozo Pius Nwokoye, a two-term member representing Awka South 2 Constituency, while Ikenna Ofoneme became the majority leader.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo urged the lawmakers to work together with the executive and judiciary arms of government for the growth of Anambra state.
