EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has threatened legal action against Peoples Gazette over a recent report accusing him of coercing NNPC’s Bayo Ojulari into resigning — www.naijnaira.com reports.
According to Peoples Gazette, Olukoyede and SSS Director Adeola Ajayi allegedly detained Ojulari and pressured him to sign a resignation letter under investigation threats.
The report also claimed both men acted on the orders of Olatimbo Ayinde, a politically connected figure with a tainted background.
An emergency intervention by First Lady Remi Tinubu reportedly kept Ojulari in office, though he has yet to comment publicly.
The EFCC chair’s lawyers from Citipoint, a Lagos-based firm, have issued a 48-hour ultimatum demanding the story’s retraction, calling it “sordid and damaging.”
Lead counsel Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika noted, “Mr. Olukoyede takes feedback seriously, but this story crosses a line and implies criminal intent.”
The Gazette’s managing editor, Samuel Ogundipe, said the outlet gave EFCC a chance to comment before publishing and has nothing to hide.
“We won’t be bullied by legal threats meant to silence critical journalism,” he said. “The story stands.”
Ogundipe added that while Olukoyede has a right to sue, the outlet is ready to defend its sources and reporting in court.
