Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s Head Coach, has expressed his surprise at the recent lavish spending of Chelsea Football Club in the January transfer window.
The Blues spent hugely on Mykhailo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez and have been receiving heavy criticism as it is unclear how they managed to stay within UEFA Financial Fair Play Regulations.
Guardiola contrasted their actions by highlighting how Manchester City have been able to achieve success without resorting to such big spending, despite winning 11 titles in the last 5 years with net spend being the 5th or 6th highest in the Premier League.
This goes against previous questions raised about Manchester City’s mammoth spending which incurred a Champions League ban before being overturned.
Furthermore, for the signing of Mudryk, Chelsea had to outbid Arsenal, offering better wages even though he reportedly was more attracted to a move there.
Regardless, all of this puts a spotlight on Chelsea’s aggressive pursuit of transfer targets at any cost.
