There are reports of a plot to impeach Senate President Godswill Akpabio when lawmakers resume their annual leave.
The politicians opposing Akpabio accuse him of being too subservient to President Bola Tinubu and not fulfilling the expectations of Nigerians.
It is said that some Senators, led by two former North West governors, have been holding meetings in Saudi Arabia and Ilorin to plan the impeachment.
The motive behind this plot is believed to be the establishment of a new “hybrid party” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Senators Abdulaziz Yari and Aminu Tambuwal are leading the charge to impeach Akpabio, capitalizing on President Tinubu’s handling of the Niger coup and certain policies perceived as anti-people.
The plot is aimed at ousting the current leadership of the Senate and gaining support from opposition senators.
