Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has been charged with assaulting a police officer on May 13 on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
Last Thursday, a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos granted an application by the police for an extension of remand for an additional four days, until May 22, to allow further investigation into the case.
However, a source has claimed that the police are attempting to take Kuti to the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, Ogun State to declare him mentally ill.
The court has ordered a medical examination of Kuti, but there is a discrepancy between what was said in court and the document presented.
Kuti was previously remanded for 48 hours and will be admitted to bail in the sum of one million Naira with two sureties in like sum.
The case has been adjourned until May 22 for mention and the prosecutor has been directed to duplicate the case file and forward a copy to the state director of public prosecutions for advice.
