The Northeast Forum (NEF) is still assessing the actions of presidential candidates in the upcoming election, including their words and plans, to determine which one can best carry the burden of northern Nigeria.

Spokesperson of NEF, Dr Baba-Ahmed, told our correspondent in a telephone chat that a decision on who to endorse will be made once they form an opinion about each candidate’s capacity and readiness.

He stressed that the forum is open-minded and taking all necessary precautions before making any decisions, refusing to be rushed by the limited time left until election day.

Meanwhile, The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III urged Nigerians to use their votes wisely and elect good leaders when he addressed participants at the 29th regular meeting of the National Council on Water Resources in Sokoto.

The Sultan expressed regret over many negative things said about Sokoto and the North regarding security issues before noting that despite this, his state remains peaceful with a stable environment.

He also called for setting aside ethnic differences for Nigeria to progress as a nation and appealed for public support for Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in ensuring free, fair and credible elections.
