The Depots and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) have pledged their support for the Federal Government’s decision to remove fuel subsidy.
After meeting with President Bola Tinubu, the association’s chairperson, Dame Winifred Akpani, announced that they would provide between 50 and 100 mass transit buses as a palliative measure.
These buses would be locally manufactured and use Compressed Natural Gas as fuel.
Akpani emphasized that the removal of subsidy is not about making fuel costly and inaccessible to Nigerians, but rather about addressing the real issue of petroleum product subsidy.
The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, who led the DAPPMAN delegation, stated that the subsidy removal would release more funds for economic development and unleash the potential of Nigeria.
The National Economic Council will soon begin proposing interventions to address the effects of fuel subsidy removal on Nigerians.
