Roy Keane has called for Nottingham Forest to fine goalkeeper Matz Sels a week’s wages after he conceded a bizarre free-kick goal to Brighton’s Danny Welbeck during their 2-2 draw at the Amex Stadium.

The match saw Chris Wood open the scoring for Forest from the penalty spot, followed by Jack Hinshelwood equalizing for Brighton before Welbeck’s free-kick put the home team ahead just before halftime.

Instead of sending the ball over the wall, Welbeck opted to bend it into the opposite corner, catching Sels off guard as he appeared to have that side covered.

Keane, commenting on the match for Sky Sports, criticized Sels’ positioning, stating, “You can’t be beaten on that side!”

He insisted that such a fundamental error warranted a financial penalty, saying, “I’d fine him a week’s wages. It’s so poor.”

While Keane praised Welbeck for his performance, he maintained that Sels should have done better in preventing the goal.

Theo Walcott, who played alongside Welbeck at Arsenal, echoed this sentiment, noting that Sels should have been more alert.

The game concluded 2-2 after Ramon Sosa scored for Forest in the second half.
