Taking a look at M21, it comes with a beautiful design which looks more attractive than the older Galaxy M20.
The rear camera now has a vertical rectangular module which holds it and it is different from the M20 which has just a vertical module.
The back of the smartphone is made from plastic and it also has a plastic frame.
Of course, this is the same build material used on the older Galaxy M20(plastic), so there isn’t an upgrade in the build material department.
M21 appears to be more heavier and taller in the hand than the M20.
It weighs 188grams with a dimension of 159 x 75.1 x 8.9 mm unlike the Galaxy M20 which weighs 186grams with a dimension of 156.4 x 74.5 x 8.8 mm.
Galaxy M21 still uses a Dual Nano SIMS slot and an SD card slot like the older Galaxy M20.
It is available in two colours which are Midnight Blue and Raven Black.
The older Galaxy M20 is just available in Ocean Blue and Charcoal Black colours.
Turning to the front side, you are greeted with a waterdrop notch cut-out which serves as a home for the selfie camera.
Its screen measures 6.4inches in diagonal and it uses a Super AMOLED screen with up to 16-million colours available.
Noticed an upgrade here, the older Galaxy M20 uses a PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen and it measures 6.3inches in diagonal.
Do you see that something has changed?
The display on the M21 produces a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 by 2340 pixels.
For amazing colour reproduction, there is a 403 PPI density compared to the 409 PPI density on Galaxy M20.
I would have said that the display on the Galaxy M20 would be better because of this PPI but M21 now comes with a Super AMOLED panel which is better than PLS TFT panel.
The chin and bezels on the newer Galaxy M21 has been chopped a little bit, it has smaller bezels now than the Galaxy M20, that’s why it has a screen to body ratio of 84.2% compared to the Galaxy M20 which has 83.6% screen to body.
They both has a 19:5:9 aspect ratio and the Galaxy M21 comes with a 420nits maximum brightness.
It is also protected with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 unlike the older Galaxy M20 which doesn’t come with any protection.
Hardware & Software
Coming to the hardware and software department, the Galaxy M21 is powered by an Exynos 9611 chipset which uses an Octa core processor clocked at 2.3GHz for the first four cores and 1.7GHz for the last four cores.
It runs on Android 10 with One UI 2 on top. For graphics or gaming, there is a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU responsible for it.
To compare it with the Galaxy M20, it comes with a small Exynos 7904 chipset which uses an Octa core processor clocked at 1.8GHz for the first two cores and 1.6GHz for the last six cores.
The older Galaxy M20 is also running on Android 8.1 (Oreo) out of the box, though it is upgradable to Android 10, alongside One UI 2.
It also has a Mali-G71 MP2 GPU for graphics or gaming.
From this, you can see that the Galaxy M21 brought some upgrades.
M21 is available in two configurations which are 4-giga byte of RAM and 64-giga byte of ROM or a 6-giga byte of RAM and 128-giga byte of ROM.
There is also a micro SD card slot for expansion.
Comparing it with the older M20, it comes with a 3-giga byte of RAM and 32-giga byte of ROM or a 4-giga byte of RAM and 64-giga byte of ROM.
There is also a micro SD card slot for expansion.
As for cameras, Galaxy M21 comes with a triple rear cameras.
The triple rear cameras includes a 48-mega pixels main camera with f/2.0 aperture, 8-mega pixels ultra wide camera with f/2.2 aperture and 5-mega pixels depth sensor with f/2.2 aperture.
On the front it has a 20-mega pixels selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture.
Comparing it to the older Galaxy M20, that one comes with a dual rear cameras which includes a 13-mega pixels main camera with f/1.9 aperture and a 5-mega pixels ultra wide camera with f/2.2 aperture.
On the front, it has an 8-mega pixels camera for selfies or video calls with f/2.0 aperture.
Yes, Samsung really upgraded in the camera department.
The older Galaxy M20 comes with a dual rear cameras while this newer M21 comes with a triple rear cameras.
Also, the new M21 can record videos in 4K at 30fps but the older version can’t do that.
On the front, the Galaxy M21 comes with a 20-mega pixels selfie camera which is a huge bump for the M20 which just have an 8-mega pixels selfie camera.
The rear camera on the Galaxy M21 also supports electronic image stabilization.
Battery & Connectivity
Coming to the power house, the Galaxy M21 is powered by a whopping 6,000mAh battery capacity which supports 15W fast charging.
This is a really big battery capacity and so, it can last you for a full day.
Comparing it to the Galaxy M20, it comes with a lesser 5,000mAh battery which supports 15W fast charging.
So there is an upgrade in the battery department, the Galaxy M21 now comes with a 1,000mAh higher than the Galaxy M20 and that’s quite a huge upgrade.
It has a rear mounted fingerprint reader and connectivity options includes Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and FM Radio.
Galaxy M21 is a good Samsung device to get if you want something that can last you for a whole day.
It comes with a plastic body which isn’t bad for a phone of this price point, plastic are always more durable than glass so it is good.
Again, it uses a Super AMOLED panel which will produce vibrant colours and lots of details when watching videos or playing games.
Thanks to the 6.4inches screen, you get to view games and videos in a large screen.
It even produces a full HD+ resolution which will add spices to the Super AMOLED panel to bring good colour reproduction.
The 48-mega pixels rear camera is capable of taking high resolution and detailed images.
Even the Exynos 9611 chipset will make you have a smooth performance. It is faster than the chipset on the older Galaxy M20.
So, Galaxy M21 is a good upgrade over the older Galaxy M20. It comes with a better design, better display, better hardware and software, better cameras and even a better battery!
Samsung just did a thorough upgrade with M21.
