Bulgaria and Romania have been approved to join the Schengen Zone by the end of 2023, according to the European Parliament.

This decision comes after both countries met the requirements set by the European Commission.

The inclusion of Bulgaria and Romania in the Schengen Zone will have an impact on non-European travelers, including those from Nigeria.

It is expected that by the start of 2024, these countries will have joined the Schengen Zone, allowing for seamless travel across most of the region without the need for strict identity checks and long delays.

The European Commission has highlighted the benefits of including Bulgaria and Romania, such as reducing delays, bureaucratic challenges, and additional expenses.

These two countries have been on the waiting list to join the Schengen Zone since their EU accession in 2007, mainly due to concerns about cross-border crime, illegal migration, and security issues.

However, with resistance from member states waning and pressure to lift vetoes, Bulgaria and Romania will now join the Schengen Area.

This inclusion will have an impact on Nigerian travelers, as passport checks for Bulgarian and Romanian nationals traveling within the EU and Schengen Area will no longer be necessary.

Overall, this expansion of the Schengen Zone will lead to smoother international travel for non-European travelers, including those from Nigeria.
