Nigerian football star Segun Odegbami is set to be awarded an honorary doctorate degree in human kinetics from Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) during their 7th convocation ceremony later this month.
Known as the ‘Mathematical’ when playing for Nigeria due to his studies at The Polytechnic, Ibadan in mechanical engineering, Odegbami expressed surprise and gratitude at his selection for the honour.
In a Facebook post, he expressed his sincere appreciation to the university’s governing council, senate, staff and students for granting him such esteemed recognition.
It comes as encouraging news as more Nigerian footballers are opting to pursue academic pathways alongside playing professionally at the top level.
