Seven Firms Exit National Grid to Boost Power Supply in Nigeria

Here Is The Easy Money-Making Trick Everyone Is Talking About! Learn More Here!

Seven firms have received licenses to generate power, which will boost the electricity supply in Nigeria.

These companies will add up to 30 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the national grid under various arrangements.

According to Legit.ng, five of these companies will generate power solely for their own use, while two have the authority to generate and sell electricity to others.

In the fourth quarter of 2024, Daybreak Power Solutions Limited secured a one-off grid generation license with a capacity of 2.63 MW.

Other institutions also received permits, including Nile University of Nigeria in Abuja (10 MW), Quantum Paper Limited in Ogun State (7 MW), Ro-Marong Nigeria Limited in Lagos (4.40 MW), and Psaltry International Company Limited in Oyo State (1.10 MW).

These firms can generate electricity for their own use but cannot sell it to third parties.

In addition, Prado Limited secured permits to generate power through mini-grids in 24 locations across five states: Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, Ondo, and Kano.

Cross Boundary Energy also received certificates to distribute power in Kogi State.

These mini-grids will serve specific areas, each with generation capacities up to 1 MW and distribution capacities above 100 kW.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) continues to encourage the growth of renewable energy and mini-grid solutions.

NERC has committed to issuing additional permits and certificates to support more renewable energy ventures.

This shift toward decentralized power generation will help solve Nigeria’s energy challenges.
