Vice-president-elect, Kashim Shettima, has expressed his condolences following the death of two supporters who died in a car accident after visiting him in Abuja to congratulate him on his election victory.
The accident occurred along the Jos-Bauchi axis as the supporters were returning home.
The two supporters have been identified as Iliyasu and Mallam Nuhu.
The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, both of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as winners of the presidential election on March 1.
They are expected to be sworn in on May 29.
Reacting to the incident, Shettima said he was deeply pained by their deaths and prayed for comfort for their family and loved ones. The vice-president-elect described the deceased as “great supporters and dedicated stalwarts” and expressed his appreciation for their support.
“I have just been notified of the death of two great supporters and dedicated stalwarts, Hons. Iliyasu and Mallam Nuhu died in a fatal accident while returning to their abode from Abuja,” Shettima said. “I am deeply pained by their deaths especially as they had just recently visited me, and in the spirit of Ramadan shared iftar with me and many others. May Allah SWT grant them Al-Jannah Firdaus, and comfort their immediate family and loved ones.”
