The Tecno Camon 16 Premier (C16P), which was released some days ago, is a very cool smartphone, as you will expect and through the course of this write up i will discuss its price in Nigeria and features.
In terms of design, I can’t say the device is better, compared to the Camon 15 Premier. However, when it comes to computing power, the CP16 is clearly superior to its predecessor.
Also when it comes to the aspect of camera, the C16P is also superior. But one thing you should understand is that the C16P doesn’t come with 5G support — disregard those claims that the product has 5G networks support.
While the paragraph above gives a rough idea of what the Camon 16 Premier is, there are a lot of details you’ll be glad to know about.
The computing hardware of the phone, its storage, its cameras, etc, are all things worthwhile of having further discussions about. So consider spending some additional minutes reading about the phone.
And as regards the structure of our further discussion, we’ll start with a specs and features summary of the device. After this, we are going to have a brief discussion about the price of the device. Then, I’ll move on to an actual review of the device.

From the perspective of design, there is no doubt about the Camon 16 Premier being a nice phone.
The shape of the device, the front and rear cameras positioning, the case of the phone, etc, are all impressive.
And to give a better idea of how cool this device is, let me give more details about the design.
First and foremost, the phone measures 170.6 mm x 77.2 mm x 9.1 mm. If you have been paying attention to the dimensions of most mid-range devices we have out there, you’ll have no problem seeing how long and quite wide the 16 Premier is.
Being bigger with a premium look will definitely help make a statement when holding this device outdoor. So if you’re the kind who likes to show off, you’ll appreciate a product like this.
Furthermore, the phone features a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 (CGG3) protection, but not the common type of CGG3 seen in most phones.
The CGG3 of this product is rather a premium one, so expect to find the front side of the phone more appealing. But while the front of the device features a cool glass, the rear side is protected with plastic.
However, note that the plastic I’m talking about is a premium plastic, not the cheap ones used for many phones.
However, while Tecno generally did an impressive job, with the design of the phone, I feel the manufacturer could have done a better job, when it comes to the aspect of colour.
The device comes in only glacial silver, a colour not everyone will naturally be happy with.
When it comes to the computing hardware of the Camon 16 Premier, there’s absolutely nothing to worry about.
The device comes with an impressive chipset, a great processor, a powerful CPU, and a pretty good RAM.
Giving details, the chipset of this device is the MediaTek MT6785 Helio G90T. This chipset has eight cores which can be clocked at speeds between 2.00 GHz and 2.05 GHz.
And while the chipset of the Camon 15 Premier truly has cores which can be clocked at higher speeds, don’t ever make the mistake of thinking the chipset of the C15P is more powerful — there are a number of other things, aside processing speed, which determines the power of a chipset.
Giving details about the cores of the MediaTek MT6785 Helio G90T, two of the eight cores of this chipset are Cortex A76 cores.
These two cores are rated at 2.05 GHz, and they’re furthermore the primary cores of the phone. The six other cores of this device are Cortex A55 cores rated at 2.00 GHz.
The graphics processing of the Camon 16 Premier is handled by a graphics processor known as the Mali-G76 MC4.
This GPU is a widely-used GPU, and its popularity can be attributed to its excellence at doing what it is designed to do. In other words, the graphics processing of the C16P is a thing you can expect to be very impressive.
As for the RAM of the phone, the C16P features an 8 GB RAM as its main memory. A RAM of 6 GB is what’s actually needed for a phone of its kind.
So with the device coming with 8 GB of RAM, the aspect of RAM is something you’ll hardly have a reason to be disappointed about.
Camon 16 Premier is a product featuring an IPS display. But while the IPS display is far from being terrible, I feel the manufacturer could have done a better, by equipping the device with an AMOLED display.
The device looks too nice to not have an AMOLED display, and yes I think it still makes sense if the phone will be slightly more expensive because of an AMOLED display. But anyway, there’s nothing we can do about that right now.
As for details about the IPS display of the phone, the display of the C16P is measured to be 6.90 inches. The shape of this device is more like that of a phone, and not really like that of a tablet.
So if you plan to buy a tablet, don’t think the C16P will make an ideal device. In addition, the display of the phone has a resolution of 1,080 x 2,460, a thing that leaves the device with a pixel density of about 374 pixels per inch.
The operating system which powers the Camon 16 Premier is the Android 10 OS. The Android 10 OS is the latest version of the Android OS, so if you look forward to enjoying all the things the OS has to offer, a phone like the Camon 16 Premier will not disappoint.
However, one thing you should keep in mind is that the operating system of this device is not the stock Android 10. The OS of the product is rather a customized version of the Android 10. So before deciding to make the C16P your next phone, don’t forget this fact.
And as regards whether the C16P will be upgradable to the Android 11, the answer is yes.
If you can afford both the Camon 15 Premier and the 16 Premier, the aspect of storage is a reason why you may prefer the C16P over the former.
While the C15P also comes with 128 GB of storage, the storage of the C16P is a UFS 2.1 storage, compared to the eMMC 5.1 of the C15P.
In fact, if you can afford both devices, I’ll recommend opting-in for the C16P because when it comes to taking very high-resolution pictures and videos, the eMMC 5.1 storage of the C15P won’t make it as responsive as the C16P.
Also, while the 128 GB storage of the C16P should be enough for a typical user, the phone has support for micro SD card. So “people who feel 128 GB of storage won’t be enough” have no reason to avoid this product because of its storage capacity.
Between the rear cameras positioning of the C15P and that of the C16P, that of the C15P is hands-down the nicer one. However, this isn’t meant to mean the rear cameras positioning of the C16P isn’t also cool — it’s actually also very nice.
The main rear camera of the C16P is a 64 MP lens. This lens, as you will expect, is highly enhanced.
The lens has loads of software and hardware enhancements, and it takes excellent pictures.
It is also worthwhile stating that the camera can also be used for recording 4K videos. And trust me when I say the quality of its 4K videos is pretty impressive.
However, while the 64 MP main rear camera is enough to take nice pictures and videos, there are three other lenses supporting it.
There is an 8 MP lens which assists with ultrawideness, and there’s a 2 MP which assists with the depth pictures and videos.
There’s further another 2 MP lens whose function has to do with assisting with other miscellaneous things, when taking videos with the phone.
Just like the rear side of the Camon 16 Premier, the front of the phone features impressive cameras.
The front of the phone features a 48 MP lens which does an excellent job when it comes to taking pictures and videos.
I was able to take a few pictures with the camera, and believe me when I say the pictures are mind-blowing.
And while the 48 MP lens is what actually does the major job of taking pictures and videos, the lens has the support of another 8 MP front-facing facing.
This 8 MP lens is stated to assist with helping the main front camera create wide-viewing-angle pictures and videos.
As stated above, the Camon 16 Premier is not a phone that has 5G support. So if you’re the type who may want to use 5G when they travel out to other developed countries, you may want to avoid this product.
If you’re also the type who’s going to use your next phone for over 3 years, you may also want to avoid a product like this, since 5G should have become mainstream in Nigeria by 2022/2023.
And as for the 4G support of the phone, the Camon 16 Premier has an excellent 4G support. I tested it with the 4G networks of all major mobile network operators in the country, it worked with every one of them.
And by major mobile network operators, I mean MTN, Glo, Airtel, and 9mobile.
Aside from the fact that I find the Camon 16 Premier to be overpriced, I don’t see any big reason to be displeased with the phone.
And for those who are very skeptical when it comes to Tecno products, I can confidently assure you that this product will not disappoint.
What do you guys think about the Tecno camon 16 premier putting its price in Nigeria and what it has to offer into consideration or deciding factors.
