Wout Weghorst has explained his decision to take the No.27 shirt at Manchester United after completing a shock loan transfer from Wolfsburg.
The experienced Dutch frontman is looking to make an impact leading the Red Devils’ attacking line, and when it came to picking out a number for his jersey, he made sure to pick one associated with strikers – two and seven making nine.
Weghorst had asked permission from Alex Telles – who is currently on loan at Sevilla and wears the No. 27 shirt for Man Utd – before taking up the spot, which was happily granted.
After ensuring it was all ok with Alex, Wout chose the jersey because of a ‘good feeling’ around it, and will hopefully get his first chance to wear it in Wednesday’s game against Crystal Palace, followed by an important clash with Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday.
