A senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ambassador Abayomi Mumuni, has claimed that no existing opposition party in Nigeria has the structure or strength to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
According to a statement shared with journalists and reported by Daily Post Nigeria, Mumuni stated that the major opposition groups lack both organization and unity to put forward a serious challenge.
He pointed out that Nigeria’s political environment demands more than just criticism of the ruling party. Opposition groups, he said, have struggled to connect with voters and present clear, actionable policies.
Mumuni stressed the need for well-coordinated efforts, saying successful campaigns are built on grassroots engagement and a unified vision. In his words, “No incumbent president has been easily unseated without a robust, organized, and coordinated opposition.”
He believes the opposition’s limited visibility and inability to earn public trust make it difficult for them to compete effectively. This, combined with Tinubu’s groundwork in office, could give the ruling party a serious advantage in 2027.
Beyond elections, Mumuni encouraged opposition figures to consider collaboration over confrontation, at least for now. He said this wouldn’t be surrender but rather a tactical move to influence governance and rebuild their political base.
He also urged political leaders to use the time before the next election to strengthen their parties, improve public engagement, and focus on issues that affect Nigerians daily.
While he admitted the road ahead may be tough for opposition movements, he emphasized the need for clear thinking and long-term planning to make a comeback viable.
