Former Minister of Niger Delta and former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, has been elected as the Senate President in the 10th National Assembly, defeating Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, the former governor of Zamfara State.
Tajudeen Abbas, the House of Representatives Member representing Zaria constituency, has been elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
In a statement, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu congratulated the newly elected National Assembly leaders and expressed confidence that they will live up to the trust placed in them by their colleagues and the Nigerian people.
Tinubu also offered advice to the defeated candidates, encouraging them to maintain the same enthusiasm they displayed during the contest and carry out their duties to their constituents and Nigeria with dedication.
He emphasized the importance of working together in harmony and respect for each other’s prerogatives to achieve good governance and improve the standards of living for Nigerians.
