As the All Progressives Congress (APC) continues to face resistance from some aspirants for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly, President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reportedly looking to appoint someone from the North Central zone as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) in a bid to ensure fair and equitable distribution of offices in the country.
This decision comes after the APC had already zoned the Senate Presidency, Deputy Senate Presidency, Speakership, and Deputy Speakership to specific regions.
However, the Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has expressed anger over the APC’s decision to anoint Tajudeen Abbas and Benjamin Kalu as Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively, and has put together a committee to shortlist and screen aspirants for these positions.
With tensions high, it remains to be seen how the leadership of the National Assembly will ultimately be decided.
