Tottenham Slip Out of Top Eight After 2-2 Draw with Roma in Europa League

Roma secured a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League, with Mats Hummels redeeming himself for an early penalty concession by scoring a late equalizer.

Spurs initially took control, with Son Heung-min converting a penalty early on and Brennan Johnson adding a fine strike, while Roma responded with Evan Ndicka’s equalizer.

Hummels, at fault for both Spurs goals, was under pressure but made amends in injury time.

Despite missing several chances, Roma upped the pressure in the second half, and Angelino’s low cross was diverted in by Hummels from close range, earning the Giallorossi a point.

Roma showed promise under returning manager Claudio Ranieri, who faced a tough test following a recent match against Serie A leaders Napoli.

Spurs wasted numerous opportunities, including a five-on-two counterattack where Johnson blazed over with the score at 2-1.

Stephan El Shaarawy had a stunning volley ruled out for offside, and Manu Kone and Artem Dovbyk both had goals disallowed for offside after the break.

While the match concluded in a draw, it marked the first time this season that Tottenham fell outside of the top eight, illustrating the fierce competition in the league.

The result left both teams frustrated, but Roma showed resilience, earning a valuable point away from home.
