Ikesima Brown, a popular Nigerian musician known as the Niger Delta Queen of Highlife Music, has tragically passed away in a motor accident along with six other band members of Ijaw music legend, Chief Barrister Smooth.
The accident occurred on June 11th on the Abuja/Lokoja highway and Kwale community in Delta State, while the band members were on their way from Warri to Abuja for a show.
The ill-fated vehicle carrying the band was engaged by a state government to perform at the swearing-in reception of National Assembly members in Abuja.
The accident involved a collision between the Toyota Siena car carrying the band members and a fuel tanker, resulting in the death of Brown, Chief Joseph Ekeremieye, Ebis Awiki, Tuku, and others.
Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, expressed deep sadness over the twin accidents that claimed the lives of at least 10 Ijaw indigenes, describing it as a Black Sunday for Bayelsa and the Ijaw nation.
The governor extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and Barrister Smooth, adding that the loss of young talents actively impacting lives through their musical talent is a great loss to the state.
