Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has emerged as the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the state.
This victory means that Aiyedatiwa will be the APC’s candidate for the forthcoming November 16 election. The chairman of the governorship primary election committee and governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo, made the announcement in Akure, the state capital.
Ododo described the primary election as competitive and highlighted the rigorous contest that characterized the electoral process.
Aiyedatiwa secured a resounding victory, amassing a total of 48,569 votes. His closest rival, Mayowa Akinfolarin, trailed behind with 15,343 votes, while Chief Olusola Oke secured the third position with 14,865 votes. Aiyedatiwa won in 16 of the 18 local government areas (LGAs), with Oke winning in Ilaje LGA.
The election in Ifedore LGA was cancelled. Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of unity within the party, stating that the real election lies with all members of the APC.
He urged party members to set aside their differences and unite behind Aiyedatiwa as the candidate. He reminded them of the words of President Bola Tinubu, who emphasized that a political contest is a quest to serve and that after the election, all members must continue to live together as one family.
With the nomination secured, Aiyedatiwa and the APC will now focus on consolidating support and rallying behind their candidate for the November governorship election.
