Carlo Ancelotti has revealed why Real Madrid were not willing to invest in signing more players after landing Antonio Rudiger and Aurelien Tchouameni early in the summer.
Los Blancos lost Casemiro to Manchester United in August, but they didn’t consider beefing up their midfield, as Ancelotti has placed his confidence in the existing midfielders.
“We have never thought twice about signing more players,” Ancelotti told the pre-match press conference ahead of the Real Betis clash on Saturday.
“In terms of departures, we evaluate the situations of Casemiro or [Marco] Asensio, but I’m happy because those who have stayed have always delivered and will do so again this year.
“There are many players with only one year left on their contracts, but that’s not a problem.”
Asked about these players whose contract runs until the end of this season, Ancelotti named some of them who have earned the right to stay put until they retire.
“The future of this club and of these players, like [Luka] Modric, [Toni] Kroos, Karim [Benzema] or Nacho [Fernandez], is quite clear,” Ancelotti added.
