Workers Urge Federal Government to Increase Minimum Wage to N200,000

The Workers’ Alliance for Inclusive Socio-economic Reforms (WAISER) has urged the federal government of Nigeria to increase the minimum wage to N200,000 per month.

The group’s national coordinator, Amodu Isiaka, stated that this increase would help alleviate the impact of the recent petrol subsidy removal on Nigerians.

WAISER proposed that the government should also dedicate two days a week to e-governance to improve productivity and ease the burden on workers.

The group argued that the current national minimum wage of N30,000 is unsustainable and should be reviewed to about 500%.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) are currently in talks with the federal government to mitigate the impact of the petrol subsidy removal.
