The first phone on the mix series was launched in mid 2016 and was called the Xiaomi mi mix. Xiaomi’s intention was to create an all screen smartphone with little or no bezels and Chin. They improved on the design with the mi mix 2 in 2017 and again with the mi mix 2s in the first quarter of 2018. Xiaomi mi mix 3 was announced in October 2018 with an all screen display with no interruption like notch (as seen in most other flagships in 2018) almost achieving their aim.
Yes, almost. Why? Because the full display means there is no front facing camera on the screen. It uses a mechanical slider which reveals the selfie camera when needed.
Until they (Xiaomi) or any other smartphone manufacturer can figure out how to avoid notch (as seen on most 2018 flagships), pop up camera (as seen on Oppo Find X) and mechanical slider (as it is with Mi Mix 3), i refuse to believe we have achieved a full screen display. However, those design are innovative and welcome development.
The Mi Mix 3 do not just took the attempt to full display up a notch, it also come with some ground breaking features such as being one of the first smartphones with 10GB RAM and support for 5G network.
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Review
The manufacturer might have joined its colleague in removing the 3.5mm headphone jack but don’t worry they ship it with headphone jack to type-c connector. Another thing worth mentioning is that the device supports wireless charging and it ships with a wireless charger.
Design & Display
Its 6.39-inch super AMOLED display is protected by corning gorilla glass while the frame is designed out of 7000 series aluminium it retains the ceramic back as seen on the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S. Also as it is with mi mix smartphones in the past, there are accent of gold (but this time not around the camera but mix logo at the mid-bottom).
At the bottom are the speaker, microphone and usb type-c port. On the right side are the power and volume rocker and on the left is the SIM card slot.
The selfie camera and couple other sensor are on the magnetic slider and at the rear are the dual camera and fingerprint scanner.
It boast of Full HD screen resolution at 1080 x 2340 pixels, 403 ppi pixel density, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 93.4% screen to body ratio.
Performance, Software & Storage
It is powered by 8-Cores Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with Adreno 630 GPU on board and runs on MIUI 10 based on Android 9.0 Pie.
On the memory department, you have options for 256GB internal storage paired with either 8GB or 10GB RAM and 128GB internal storage paired with 6GB and 8GB ram.
You should expect nothing but fast and flawless performance from the mi mix 3.
Camera, Battery & Connectivity
It uses dual 12MP (wide angle lens, f/1.8, 1/2.55″, 4-axis OIS, 1.4µm, Dual Pixel PDAF) and another 12MP (telephoto lens with 1/3.4″, 1.0µm) at the rear and on the front facing camera housed on the mechanical slider is a dual 24 MP, 1/2.8″, 0.9µm + 2 MP, depth sensor.
The Mi Mix 3 is packed with 3200 mAh battery capacity which is very low if you asked me. They should have atleast tried to scale it up to atleast 3500 mAh. However, you should have no problem getting it almost through out a day on average usage. Meaning if you charge in the morning, you will only need to top up in the night.
It support Type-C reversible connector, 5G network, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC and Wi-Fi.
