Xiaomi MIUI ROM: Everything You Need to Know About Xiaomi Custom ROM.
In simple term, Xiaomi MIUI Rom is a customized version of Android OS. Just like Windows 10 combines Windows 8 and Windows 7, MIUI combines the look of Android OS and Apple’s iOS. This ROM was initially developed only for Chinese users, based on the FroYo build of Android and only available in Chinese local language. Today, it now supports over 30 languages including English. It is a firmware for Xiaomi smartphones.
MIUI means “Mi User Interface” and is pronounced as “Me You I”, according to Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun in 2011
MI is an acronym for Mobile Internet or Mission Impossible.
Complete version of Xiaomi MIUI ROM is pre-installed on all Xiaomi’s smartphones which includes apps and features not available in the aftermarket version of MIUI.
Other than Xiaomi smartphones, MIUI ROM can also be flashed on Samsung, Sony, HTC, LG, One Plus, Nexus etc. MIUI is one of the most used custom Rom globally today. Its users have grown from 100 MIUI first users to 12 million forum users around the world and over 150,000,000 Xiaomi MIUI ROM users in five years.
Xiaomi MIUI ROM updates are rolled out every Friday via OTA except for two weeks in a year; new year and golden week. According to Xiaomi’s VP during the official launch of MIUI 7 in India last year
Saturdays and Sundays are used to collect feedback from users that flashed the update released on Fridays, Mondays through Wednesdays are used for coding new updates while they do internal testing on Thursdays before rolling out the updates on Fridays.
So far, over 250 updates have been rolled out in 5 years
Xiaomi ROM (MIUI) for China users does not ship with Google Play Services. However, Xiaomi MIUI ROM releases for Android devices in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and countries outside of China such as India, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia has Google Play Services and Google Apps such as Gmail, Google Maps, Google Play Store pre-installed and functions as it would on any other Android device.
Xaiomi MIUI Rom (global versions) are Google certified. Direct downloads for country specific release also contains Google Play Services and Apps. According to VP Hugo Barra in India
Today we have more than 48 official roms and 480 community ROMS.
Features of Xiaomi MIUI ROM that makes it Special and Unique.
The selling point of MIUI ROM is its beautiful user interface and how elegant it made Android look and feel. It is one of the most customizable, seriously fast and elegant Rom with improved battery life around. It offers strong theme support, beautiful stock apps, customizable lockscreens, support for GApps, and complete root access.
SPEED: Despite all in and out customization made to the stock Android, Xiaomi MIUI ROM is fast, I mean Really fast. No matter how sluggish or laggy your Android device works, you will notice immediate changes after flashing MIUI.
Smoothness and fast were one of them. If you’ve got an old phone, MIUI ROM is worth checking out for the speed increases alone.
USER INTERFACE: Xiaomi MIUI ROM does not resemble any of the currently available customized builds of Android OS, neither does it look similar to stock Android. It borrows from both iOS and Android platform. It’s designed to look more like iOS interface than stock Android, and it is gorgeous.
You’ve got the pretty menus, and a ton of home screens to swipe through. There’s no app drawer, which might looks somehow strange at first, but you get used to it pretty quickly.
During the official launch of the new Redmi Note 2 in Kualumpur, Malaysia last year, VP Hugo Barra said Xiaomi smartphones are for those that love customization, but lacks the gut to flash a Custom Rom on their Android device.
Xiaomi MIUI ROM does a great job of helping you manage your home screens, the notification drop-down is still present, thankfully, and it’s got a power control-like widget built in, that lets you swipe between tons of different settings and quickly toggle them on and off.
You can even reboot or shut down your phone right from this menu. And, of course, Xiaomi MIUI ROM has a great themes manager that lets you download and try out different themes for the custom UI.
IMPROVED BATTERY LIFE AND STOCK APPS: After almost 100% customization of the stock Android OS, MIUI was able to increase your battery life by 30%.
The developers behind Xiaomi MIUI ROM also brought in some of their own applications, most notably, the Contacts app or Dialer, the FM app and the MIUI music player, which work better than any other offering (including the stock ones). They look beautiful, are more user friendly, and use less memory.
All in all, Xiaomi MIUI ROM is an amazing custom Rom all Android users should try out.
