The toned down version of the original Android operating system dubbed Android GO has made its way into one of China’s biggest smartphone manufacturer agenda. At the early hours of 29th of January 2019, Xiaomi Redmi GO was officially announced to the world through the company’s twitter handle.
You can read more about Android GO in case you are hearing it for the first or maybe you just want to know much more about it. But in simple term, it is a lite version of Google’s OS for smartphone that allows devices they run to do more with their hardware than they will normal do on the full or original version.
This version of the OS comes with some pre-installed GO apps that works and run smoothly on them. With 1GB RAM, you can enjoy facebook messenger, instagram and many more just the way you would on normal the full version with upgraded hardware. Android GO is optimized to be battery efficient and manage your memory efficiently.
Xiaomi Redmi GO.
Like most manufacturers including the big brands, Xiaomi has decided to try their hands on the GO Android and Redmi GO is what they came up with. Meaning it is their first smartphones on this version of Google’s operating system. It is also one of the cheapest GO smartphones around slightly costing less than the Nokia 1 and Samsung Galaxy J2 Core.
Design & Display.
This is an entry level smartphone, so you should lower your design expectations. The truth is this device brought back old memories taking us back to the era of 16:9 aspect ratio (i said that like it was decades ago, lol) which was put into the box when the wave of 18:9 aspect ration started blowing across the manufacturers design lab (a design that started trending in late 2017).
It also reminds me of the old capacitive buttons at the bottom of most redmi devices ever launched which were red on the redmi note 2 and white on the redmi note 4. It also looks nice on Xiaomi Mi A2.
There is a single front facing camera with no flash and another lonely camera at the back but with LED flash. To the left of the selfie camera is the earpiece and sorry to the biometric folks, there are no fingerprint scanner, iris scanner or face unlock on this phone. Meaning, you are going to have to stick to the traditional security measures in PIN, Password and Pattern.
The device comes with a huge top, down and sides bezel that can be credited to the aspect ratio i talked about earlier.
The device is made out of polycarbonate plastic material and feature an IPS LCD touchscreen with 5.0-inch display size, 720 x 1280 pixels screen resolution accompanied by 294 PPI pixel density.
Processor, Memory & Operating System.
Redmi GO is powered by 1.4GHz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 with 28 nanometer technology. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo GO out of the box.
Its processing power is supported by 1GB RAM, Adreno 308 GPU to handle everything graphics related. Its internal storage is 8GB with SD slot that support up to 128GB.
Camera, Battery & Connectivity.
The front facing camera is 5MP with f/2.2 aperture while the rear camera is 8MP with f/2.0 aperture, LED flash and Auto Focus (AF). You can use the back camera to record in 720p@30fps quality.
On the battery department, the device is packed with 3000 mAh battery capacity from Li-Ion and it is non removable.
It is available in Blue and Black. It supports 2G, 3G and 4G LTE, 3.5mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and Radio.
