What are the new MTN codes for Data, Recharge, Balance? If you’ve been trying to buy a data bundle or recharge your mobile line using the old USSD code for MTN in Nigeria, you may have noticed that you were directed to use a different code.
This is because there are now new USSD codes for all mobile operators in the country, following the Nigerian Communications Commission’s approval of uniform codes.
Under this regulatory modernization initiative, all network operators in Nigeria, represented by the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), have implemented harmonized short codes across their networks.
This means that as an MTN subscriber, you can no longer recharge your line using the regular MTN codes *555# and *556#.
Furthermore, any mobile network provider that refuses to migrate to the new codes will be unable to provide services to its customers.
This also means that all mobile network services will now use a single customer support number, as well as a single code for credit recharge and a code for checking data balances.
