The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) says Northern Nigeria has the numbers and influence to determine who becomes the president in the 2027 general elections. The group emphasized the need for unity in the region while calling attention to challenges that could affect its political strength.
According to Daily Post Nigeria, the chairman of the ACF Board of Trustees, Alhaji Bashir M. Dalhatu, stated that the North controls 19 out of the 36 states in Nigeria and holds sway in key national institutions such as the Senate, House of Representatives, and the National Economic Council.
Dalhatu warned that despite its strength, the North faces serious problems including worsening insecurity and the displacement of indigenous communities in the Federal Capital Territory. He urged the federal government to act swiftly, describing the security situation as deteriorating by the day.
He also noted that while discussions about the 2027 election seem early, the ACF is already under pressure from northern elders to begin reviewing federal projects and policies to assess how they affect the region. A proposal is underway to establish a special committee for this purpose.
In his words: “An area that is this big and this strong can never be subdued by any opponent provided we remain united and place our region above all other considerations.”
The ACF expressed frustration about alleged land grabbing in the North by people from the South, arguing that Northerners in southern states do not enjoy the same freedom. The group maintained that it will support politicians and parties that prioritize northern interests, regardless of party affiliation.
