Samsung Galaxy users are about to experience a notable upgrade in voice message quality as RCS messaging prepares to adopt the Universal Profile 3.1 — www.naijnaira.com reports.

According to SamMobile, the GSMA has introduced the updated RCS Universal Profile 3.1, which is set to enhance audio quality by enabling both encoding and decoding using the xHE-AAC codec. Previously, this codec only handled playback, meaning users could only listen to improved-quality messages without being able to send them in the same clarity.

This change will allow users of RCS-enabled apps like Google Messages to both send and receive sharper, clearer voice notes. “This new codec support will drastically raise the bar for voice messaging,” the GSMA stated.

Another key update involves how RCS apps link to network services. Right now, apps stay constantly connected to the RCS network, but the upcoming shift will allow the network to activate connections only when necessary.

This modification aligns RCS behavior with apps such as Telegram and WhatsApp, particularly during transitions between Wi-Fi and mobile data.

Galaxy devices using Google Messages as the default app will be among the first to benefit from these changes.
