Peter Obi has dismissed any claims of a political alliance with Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election, NaijNaira can report.
Speaking in a live session with supporters on X Space, Obi confirmed he will contest in 2027 under the Labour Party and vowed to serve only one term if elected.
As published by The Guardian Nigeria, Obi clarified he had no deal with Atiku for a joint ticket, countering growing speculation about a coalition.
“If Nigerians ask me to do just two years, I will serve two years,” Obi said. “In that time, I’ll lead with competence, capacity, and compassion.”
He described zoning as a moral necessity, not just a political convenience, and said he upheld it during his time as Anambra State governor.
“I championed zoning in Anambra. I paid the price. But I remain faithful to that principle,” he said.
Obi rejected any merger driven by desperation for power, insisting that any alliance must focus on the people, not personal ambition.
He criticized President Tinubu’s travel record, slamming recent foreign visits as unnecessary distractions from Nigeria’s urgent challenges.
“What economic value does a trip to St. Lucia bring to 200 million Nigerians?” Obi asked, questioning Tinubu’s absence amid crises in Benue and Borno.
He said by January 2025, Tinubu had traveled abroad 20 times, spending 59 days in France, but never spent a night outside Lagos in any other Nigerian state.
“I will not govern from private jets. I will govern from the ground, from the pain, hope and strength of our people,” he stated.
Obi also laid out priorities for his first 100 days in office: tackling insecurity, fixing education, restoring healthcare, cutting corruption, and reducing waste.
He promised transparency in governance: “My family will never touch public funds. Every kobo will go into critical sectors, not pockets.”
Obi pledged to strengthen democracy, reinforce opposition, and ensure results reflect the people’s will before they are declared in Abuja.
“In 2027, our votes will count. The right thing must be done, not after, but before any results are announced,” he said.
He ended by challenging Nigeria’s leaders to lead by sacrifice: “If you want to lead, be ready to lay down your life for the people.”
