A total of 35 Nigerian nationals, including women and children, were deported from Ireland this week in a coordinated operation led by the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB).

According to a statement from An Garda Síochána, the deportation took place on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. The individuals were flown out of Dublin Airport on a chartered flight organized under Ireland’s immigration enforcement program.

The GNIB confirmed that the group consisted of 21 adult men, nine women, and five children. The minors were reportedly part of family units removed alongside adult guardians. Authorities stated that all individuals had exhausted legal channels to remain in the country.

“The operation resulted in the removal of 35 individuals (21 males, nine females, and five children). An Garda Síochána continues to work closely with the Department of Justice in implementing immigration policy,” the Garda statement noted.

The large-scale removal was part of Ireland’s broader efforts to enforce immigration regulations. Officials said each case followed due process before deportation orders were executed.

Mixed Reactions Over Deportation of Families

Public reaction has been divided. Supporters of the move argue that enforcing immigration laws is necessary to maintain order and uphold national policy. However, critics have pointed to the inclusion of women and children as a cause for concern.

Immigration rights advocates say the recent uptick in deportations reflects a harsh approach. Some have called for more flexible, case-by-case evaluations, especially when families or vulnerable individuals are involved.

On social media, some users expressed sympathy for those removed, while others argued the law must be applied equally to all undocumented migrants, regardless of personal circumstances.
