The WWE Universe was sent into a frenzy on Monday night after Naomi announced live on Raw that she and her husband Jimmy Uso are expecting their first child — www.naijnaira.com reports.
According to Wrestling Inc., Naomi revealed the news inside Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center before confirming she would vacate her Women’s World Championship.
The 37-year-old champion looked visibly emotional as she gave up the title she won only last month after cashing in her Money in the Bank contract at Evolution.
That shocking victory came when she inserted herself into the Ripley vs Sky match, turning it into a Triple Threat and pinning Iyo Sky to claim the gold.
Naomi went on to defend her crown just once at SummerSlam, defeating both Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky in a rematch before being pulled from last week’s Raw for medical reasons.
Her heel run has been the most successful stretch of her career, but her journey now pauses as she steps away from the ring to start a family.
WWE veteran Becky Lynch, who had to vacate her own championship in 2020 due to pregnancy, quickly went viral with her reaction on social media.
Reposting Naomi’s announcement clip, Lynch joked, “How irresponsible getting pregnant as a champion.”
Naomi assured fans she plans to return in nine months and reclaim her belt, following a similar comeback path to Lynch, who returned at SummerSlam 2021 to beat Bianca Belair for the SmackDown title.
Since her return, Lynch has gone on to collect multiple championships, including the Women’s Intercontinental Title she holds today.
Naomi had been set to defend her title against Stephanie Vaquer at Clash in Paris, but with the championship now vacant, Lynch could once again be in the mix.
