The African Democratic Congress has rejected comments by Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, insisting that his remarks on the opposition coalition were strictly his personal views — www.naijnaira.com reports.
During an interview on Channels Television, Baba-Ahmed accused the coalition of “deceiving Nigerians” and claimed it lacked the ability to lead the country forward.
He also suggested that he would consider another run alongside Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election.
In response, ADC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Jackie Wayas, issued a statement clarifying that the senator’s comments do not represent the coalition or its partners.
The statement reaffirmed the alliance’s commitment to rallying figures like Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, and Obi himself.
According to ADC, the coalition was built after broad consultations to prioritize national unity and credible leadership over party interests.
The party reminded Baba-Ahmed that even Obi had previously endorsed the coalition, stressing that no single individual or party can address Nigeria’s challenges alone.
“Since the coalition is a collective project requiring the strength of all patriots, we sincerely hope Senator Baba-Ahmed comes on board,” ADC stated.
