Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has spoken up about speculations surrounding his possible dismissal after Nigeria’s early exit from the CHAN tournament – www.naijnaira.com reports.
The 47-year-old tactician admitted he has heard talk of the NFF wanting to replace him following losses to Senegal and Sudan.
Chelle stressed he knew the risks that come with managing a national team but warned that the federation must honor his contract if they choose to sack him.
“I know, quite well, that I can be fired after one match,” he told journalist Osasu Obayiuwana.
“But if they decide to do that, they must be prepared to pay up the remainder of my contract,” he added firmly.
The former Mali boss revealed he actually earned more in his previous club job but accepted Nigeria’s offer because of the challenge and prestige of the team.
“When I came to Nigeria, I didn’t come here because of money. I was earning more in my last job,” Chelle explained.
He also disclosed that communication with top NFF officials has been minimal since his appointment, leaving him to handle most responsibilities alone.
With World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa just weeks away, his future could hinge on the results in September.
