Local government chairmen in Osun State have raised serious concerns, accusing the Central Bank of Nigeria of colluding with the All Progressives Congress to divert public funds—www.naijnaira.com reports.
The allegation came from the Osun chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria during a press briefing in Osogbo, where its chairman, Hon. Sarafadeen Awotunde, warned of a coordinated plan to sideline legitimate civil servants.
According to This Day, the controversy intensified after APC lawyer and governorship aspirant Kunle Adegoke, popularly called KRAD, admitted on live television that APC members were positioned as signatories to local government accounts.
ALGON described the revelation as “a brazen illegality” and accused federal authorities of enabling a scheme that strips rightful officers of their roles.
By law, only designated officials such as Heads of Local Government Administration, Directors of Finance, and Directors of Administration are allowed to authorize council accounts.
The group pointed to court rulings which nullified the elections of APC’s supposed council chairmen, insisting that their claims to office have no legal standing.
ALGON also alleged that CBN’s Osogbo branch rejected genuine civil servants who tried to open accounts, while approving APC nominees instead.
The council leaders warned that this breach of procedure threatens not only the financial stability of Osun councils but also the welfare of ordinary citizens.
To back their claims, ALGON submitted certified court judgments, OSSIEC documents withdrawing APC’s certificates of return, and valid certificates issued to current council leaders earlier in 2025.
The association urged the CBN Governor to investigate its officials and demanded that Kunle Adegoke explain his televised admission.
It also questioned why Osun remains the only state where federal officials are interfering with statutory joint accounts, accusing the Accountant General’s office of violating the Constitution.
ALGON vowed to resist what it called a dangerous attempt to hijack local government finances, promising to protect the resources of Osun people at all costs.
